Following conversations with provincial representativesCouncil has extended a final lease offer to Whistler Waldorf School Society though June 30, 2027, for the school to continue in Spruce Grove Park.

For over 20 years, Whistler Waldorf School has been granted temporary access to operate out of Spruce Grove Park to grow its operation and community until a permanent location could be found. Spruce Grove Park is operated by the Resort Municipality of Whistler under a Crown Grant, the terms of which require it to be used for outdoor recreation and enjoyment.

A new permanent Alta Lake location has been identified by the school, and they are actively pursuing the development of new facilities, but require time to support its move to a new location. This final licence of occupation extension is offered to provide sufficient time for the school to complete the transition to its Alta Lake Road location.

Staff discussion with the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship indicates the ministry understands the RMOW is working to ensure the use of Spruce Grove Park respects the terms of the Crown Grant, with the timing of the school’s move set to fit the best possible outcome for the whole community.

The RMOW is committed to a robust community engagement approach to inform the best possible uses of Spruce Grove Field House, and the adjacent parkland, once Whistler Waldorf School vacates the property. The engagement is targeted to begin early in 2027.
