Earlier this winter, we were invited to participate in the Whistler Blackcomb Return to Winter event for returning seasonal staff.
We spent the day connecting with folks, sharing who we are, and talking about how they can get involved in local government.
Participants also stepped into our “Hot Seat,” where we asked fun and thoughtful questions from what brought them to Whistler to what they’d change if they were mayor for a day. Thanks to everyone who joined the conversation!
We got some great suggestions around housing, parking, and even a call for more fish from Rave-On The Raven.
For more on these topics (well, maybe not the fish), check out the links below, and learn how you can Add Your Voice to the local issues that matter most to you. Our next Add Your Voice event is set for April 2. It gives residents the chance to learn and provide feedback on a range of municipal projects.
Check back with engage.whistler.ca for more details as the event date nears. You can learn more about how the RMOW approaches community engagement on whistler.ca as well.
- Parking: The RMOW owns the Day Lot parking in the centre of Whistler Village and runs it in partnership with Whistler Blackcomb. Parking payments go toward funding the operations of these lots and our local transit system.
- Housing : The municipality works with local organizations, the Province and federal government to ensure there is housing for the community. Our goal is to house at least 75 per cent of our employees in town, something that’s codified into our Official Community Plan. Housing is one of our four priorities in our 2023-2026 Strategic Plan, and we have two subsidiary corporations to develop and manage employee-restricted housing.
- Roads: The RMOW manages more than 80 kilometres of municipal roadway within Whistler, while the B.C. Ministry of Transportation is responsible for Highway 99, Whistler’s main artery.
- Smart Tourism Vision: We are developing a vision for how we manage our destination responsibly, now and for the next 50 years. Learn more and envision your ideal Whistler, here.
- WCSS Extreme Weather Shelter: The Whistler Community Services Society’s Extreme Weather Shelter opens whenever temperatures are predicted to hit –10 Celsius or below, or 0 C with an adverse weather alert.
- Get involved: Learn about all the ways you can add your voice to local decision-making on our Engage Whistler webpage.
