The Grizzly Bear is a traditional welcome figure of the Lil’wat people, symbolizing power, strength, and speed. In front of the bear is a runner, and both runner and bear are holding torches with carved flames. Together, the bear and human form a powerful symbol, offering the message that fear can be overcome when we accept the strengths of one another. This work was inspired by the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, with Lil’wat Nation one of four Host Nations.
