Creatures of particular importance to the Squamish Nation are carved into this Yellow Cedar house post. The Raven is seen as a teacher, while the Eagle is associated with the sun. The human holding a Salmon pays homage to a Squamish carving that stood in Aaron’s uncle’s village and represents the Squamish people offering salmon to visitors.

This work was inspired by the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, with Squamish Nation one of four Host Nations.
