Copper has high monetary and cultural importance to First Nations and in this work, the value of copper is a symbol for the value of an Olympic or Paralympic medal. The woven strands signify the gathering of the world for a common cause, forming a First Nations shield. This work was inspired by the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, with Kwicksutaineuk-ah-kwaw-ah-mish representing Indigenous people from western Canada.
