This carving represents both the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw and LiÍwat7úl (Squamish Nation and Lil’wat Nation), whose unceded shared territory Whistler sits on. The top of this cedar pole depicts a man wearing a cedar hat, though the hat is made from copper.
At the bottom is a cedar root basket filled with salmon, inspired by a tsplin (baby basket). This piece celebrates the spirit of cooperation and shared territories of the two Nations and was carved at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre.
