The Resort Municipality of Whistler has a range of routine operations, maintenance duties and projects to ensure residents have clean drinking water year round.
Cross Connection Control Program
To keep Whistler’s drinking water standards as high as possible and prevent backflow contamination, the RMOW has implemented a Cross Connection Control (CCC) Bylaw. A paperless testing and compliance system is in effect. Learn more about the Cross Connection Control Program.
Water main flushing program
The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) conducts comprehensive water line flushing annually from April to October to maintain safety and enhance the quality of the municipal drinking water. Learn more about the water main flushing program.
Water reservoir inspection and maintenance
The RMOW regularly inspects and cleans its 16 reservoirs to ensure they remain operational and do not contaminate Whistler’s drinking water.
All of Whistler’s reservoirs are scheduled to be inspected by either remote vehicles or scuba divers every two years to ensure residents do not experience unexpected service interruptions or water quality problems.
Inspection includes reviews of:
- structural integrity;
- leaks;
- the condition of internal equipment, such as pipes, ladders, access points, vent structures, valves, and
- sediment build-up.

South Whistler Water Supply
The South Whistler Water Supply Upgrade project will ensure a reliable and resilient water supply for residents and businesses in the Function Junction, Cheakamus Crossing, Creekside, and surrounding areas. The upgrade to the South Whistler Waster Supply adjusts the water acidity (pH), boosts water pressure and increases water flow flexibility to send water in other locations in Whistler during times of high demand.
Benefits include:
- Enhanced water security: The interconnected system provides a reliable water source even if there are issues in one specific area.
- Improved water quality: The treatment station ensures consistent water quality that meets all regulations.
- Efficient water distribution: The upgraded system allows for optimized water flow throughout Whistler.
