General safety
Whistler is a great place to live or visit. Make sure you keep yourself safe at home or when going out.
Follow these tips to keep yourself safe:
- Know your local emergency phone numbers.
- Walk on the trails provided. If you have to walk on the roadway, dress to be seen and wear reflective clothing. There are many areas in Whistler that do not have street lighting.
- Stick close to your friends when going out in Whistler, whether it’s on the mountain or at local establishments.
- Never leave your drink unattended and only take a drink that has been opened or poured in front of you.
- Know where you are staying, including the address or hotel name.
- Be aware that there are bears in Whistler. Educate yourself on what to do if you encounter a bear. Never feed the bears and always clean up your garbage, recycling and compost. Don’t leave any attractants outside your home.
- Lock up your personal belongings and record serial numbers of any of your valuable possessions.
Lost or missing persons
Please call 9-1-1 to report all lost or missing persons.
Ski and bike theft
Ski and bike theft is common in Whistler and regularly occurs outside restaurants and from cars in the public Day Lots in Whistler Village.
Protect your bike, skis, and snowboards by:
- investing in a good quality lock and ensuring your equipment is locked up securely;
- never leaving your equipment on or in your vehicle; and
- taking a photo of your equipment and recording the brand, model, colour, serial number and noting any aftermarket parts (for bikes) or any distinguishing marks.
If an item of yours has been stolen, call the non-emergency line listed above.
