The RMOW maintains the wastewater collection system and the Wastewater Treatment Plant through a variety of new project initiatives. The Sewer Odour and Corrosion Control Program is a one year pilot project that began in June 2018.
Odour is often caused by peak day sewage flows, causing gasses to be expelled from manholes and other avenues to the sewers. Odour and corrosion control dosing and storage stations have been installed at two strategic locations in Whistler, one in Emerald and the other in Alpine. A third test dosage and storage station will be installed in Rainbow.
The project seeks to:
- Provide safer working conditions for workers required to access sanitary manholes and wet-wells.
- Mitigate sanitary odour issues experienced at a number of node points along the RMOW’s sanitary sewer system.
- Mitigate concrete corrosion that has been identified along the RMOW’s trunk main and extends the functional life of this important piece of infrastructure.
