Lost Lake trails

Lost Lake offers a variety of trails for all skill levels.

Trail ratings

Green Circle – Easiest

Gentle terrain, shorter distances. Expect gradual hills and long run outs. Basic climbing and descending skills required. Beginner-friendly.

Blue Square – More Difficult

Moderate climbs/descents and occasional tighter turns; suits skiers comfortable controlling speed and stopping on varied terrain. Occasional technical or fitness challenge.

Black Diamond – Most Difficult

Steeper, longer climbs/descents, tighter corners and narrower sections, best for experienced skiers with strong technique and fitness.

Cross country ski trails

  • Easiest (green circle) – Lost Lake Loop (4km) / Nicklaus North Golf Course (4km – flat scenic loop)
  • More difficult (blue square) – Lower Panorama, Middle Panorama, Hydro Hill, Vimy Ridge
  • Most difficult (black diamond) – Upper Panorama, Centennial, Chateau Golf Course (challenging terrain with rewarding views)

Snowshoe trails

  • Easiest (green circle) – Red Trail (short, gentle loop suitable for most abilities)
  • More difficult (blue square) – Blue Trail, Orange Trail to Green Trail (Green Lake Lookout) from Mons Ticket Booth
  • Most difficult (black diamond) – None designated. Exertion is based on distance rather than technical difficulty.

Trail tip: Shorter routes are available. Access to Orange and Green Trails is available from the Mons Ticket Booth, providing a faster option to reach Green Lake Lookout.

Know before you go – snowshoes vs. shoe grips

Choosing the right traction gear depends on the conditions.

  • Deep, fresh snow? Consider snowshoes for flotation and grip.
  • Icy or thin snowpack? Opt for snow/ice grips such as Yaktrax or crampons for better stability and traction.

Note: Do not use Yaktrax, grips or crampons when temperatures are above 3 degrees Celsius. In warmer conditions, snow becomes soft and unstable, and result in “post-holing” – breaking through the surface of the snow. This can lead to trail damage and create hazardous conditions for other users and can also cause injuries. Snowshoes on warmer days help distribute your weight and protect the integrity of trails.

Skiing is from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, holidays excepted, with a lighted loop from the entrance to the warming hut and around Lost Lake (4 km loop).
