Construction project phase: Active

Location: Brio and Sunridge Plateau

Category: Water and sanitary sewer

Status

The Brio water services and valve replacement project contractor is setting up a temporary above-ground water supply to support construction. This temporary water supply is expected to be used from Monday, June 29 and until October 8. During this time, residents throughout the upper Panorama Ridge area may have a reduced water supply and water pressure. The map shows the area that will be impacted.

Current schedule for reduced water supply and pressure:

  • 3373-3431 and 3378-3390 Panorama Ridge, Alta Vista Works Yard at 3000 Highway 99 (see segment 1): June 29 to October 8
  • 3341-3369 and 3350-3374 Panorama Ridge (see segment 2): August 7 to October 8
  • 3317-3333 and 3314-3346 Panorama Ridge (see segment 3): September 18 to October 8

Minor water service shut offs for up to 30 minutes:

  • Monday, June 29, 2026, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Affected addresses: 3373–3431 and 3378–3390 Panorama Ridge, Alta Vista Works Yard at 3000 Highway 99 (see segment 1)
  • You will receive at least 72 hours’ notice before any minor water service shut offs for up to 30 minutes.

Water service shut off on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

  • Affected addresses: 3301–3431 and 3306–3390 Panorama Ridge, Alta Vista Works Yard at 3000 Highway 99 (segments 1, 2 and 3)
  • You will receive at least 72 hours’ notice before the water service is shut off from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please store water in advance.

Your water may have air and be discoloured when your water service is restored. Please run a top-floor tap until the water runs clear.

Construction for Phase 1 of the Brio water services and vales replacement project is underway and will be completed early October 2026.

Overview

The purpose of this project is to replace the existing water services, fire hydrants, and valves. Replacement of the 150 mm PVC water main is not recommended at this time, as the pipe is not at end-of-life and remains in good working condition.

The current water services are made of polybutylene, a material that is no longer used and is directly tapped into the water main. Our Utilities team has responded to multiple leaks in the past. As part of this project, these services will be upgraded to polyethylene (PE), the current standard for service pipe.

Installed in the late 1970s, many of the existing water services, valves, and fittings have reached the end of their service life. They are in poor condition due to age, fatigue, and corrosion, which has led to repeated leaks and service failures. These issues have caused damage to RMOW infrastructure, affected private property, and resulted in unplanned water outages.

The project will take place in three phases over three years and by replacing these components will improve system reliability and reduce the risk of future failures.

What’s happening

  • To minimize service interruption, the contractor will install a temporary overland water supply during construction.
  • Replacement of the water services from water main to water shut off valve at property line, fire hydrants, and valves.

Benefits

Replacing the existing polybutylene services, direct tapped connections, and valves and fittings will reduce leaks, lower unplanned maintenance, and improve the reliability of the water system. These replacements will also help reduce water loss, and provide better, more dependable service for the community.
