FACILITIES AND RECREATION
40 Books for 40 Years
Forty years ago, on August 27, 1986, Whistler Public Library opened its doors for the first time. The library team invites you to celebrate the 40th birthday with a reading challenge: 40 Books for 40 Years. Your challenge is to read 40 books this year – any genre, fiction or non-fiction, and physical books, e-books, and audiobooks are welcome. This challenge is designed to spark curiosity, encourage trying new genres, and reconnect with reading. Learn more.
Food trucks are back in Whistler’s parks
Local food trucks return to Lost Lake Park and Rainbow Park on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holiday Mondays from May 15 through June 21 with the Park Eats program. The trucks operate approximately 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., although hours are subject to change and are weather dependent.
In peak season, from June 26 through September 7, Lost Lake Park and Rainbow Park will have food trucks daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lakeside Park, Alpha Lake Park and Whistler Olympic Plaza will have food trucks on specific dates and for some events. Find the full schedule and vendors.
New lawn being irrigated at Lakeside Park and Emerald Park
We are irrigating the new lawns at Lakeside Park and Emerald Park. At this early stage, irrigation is important to establish the grass for summer. Please avoid the fenced-off area protecting this new turf. Thanks for your patience.
Whistler Olympic Plaza lawn is closed for grass renewal
The lawn at Whistler Olympic Plaza is closed while we regrow the grass for summer. The lawn is expected to reopen in mid-June, depending on weather.
Rainbow Lake trail closed
The Rainbow Lake hiking trail is closed from June 1 until early August while the Gin and Tonic bridge and A-Frame bridge are replaced. The Rainbow Falls Loop and Flank Trail will stay open, but there’s no access above the Flank Trail.
BC Parks announces day-use pass dates for Garibaldi Park and Pipi7íyekw (Joffre Lakes Park), as well as Pipi7íyekw closure dates
BC Parks has launched their 2026 day-use pass program for Garibaldi Park from June 12 to October 12 and Pipi7íyekw (Joffre Lakes Park) from May 11 to October 25. Pipi7íyekw will close June 20 to 27 and September 8 to 30.

Campfire ban
Campfires are banned in Whistler. All campfire permits are suspended during the ban. CSA- and ULA-rated propane campfire apparatus are permitted when used in a way that complies with regulations.

Whistler is in Water Conservation Stage 2
In-ground automatic irrigation systems can water three days a week between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., with the days determined by your address.
Edible gardens can be watered by any irrigation method any day of the week between 7 and 10 a.m., as well as 8 to 11 p.m. Trees, shrubs and flower beds can be watered manually or by hand any day of the week between 7 and 10 a.m. as well as 8 to 11 p.m.
It’s essential to conserve water both for drinking and to fight structural fires. This year we have a very low snowpack that could lead to summer drought.
Apply for a Temporary Irrigation Permit if you have new landscaping that needs more frequent watering. Read more about water conservation restrictions.

You can drop off yard waste for free at the Nesters and Function depots until November.

Join Council and staff to learn about upcoming 2026 municipal projects including: FireSmart, Bear Smart, Community Wildfire Resilience Plan, plastic recycling, the 2026 election, OCP amendment, Zoning Bylaw update, Big Moves Climate Action, being prepared for an emergency, Active Transportation Network Plan, and our partner BC Transit’s Transit Future Action Plan.

WILDFIRE FUEL MANAGEMENT
Alta Lake Road north
We are managing vegetation in partnership with the Cheakamus Community Forest to reduce wildfire risk along the north end of Alta Lake Road. Work continues in the unit 2 and unit 5 areas on the map. This work involves temporary trail closures on: Barts Dart Trail, River Runs Through It Access Trail, A River Runs Through It and Get Over It. Work also requires intermittent closures on the gravel pit access road down from Alta Lake Road, this doesn’t include the Emerald Forest section.

Highway 99: between Panorama Ridge and the Alta Vista Works Yard (east side of Highway)
We are managing vegetation on the east side of Highway 99 between Panorama Ridge and the Alta Vista Works Yard; this work will continue until around June 12.

Both sides of Highway 99: Nicklaus North Golf Course and Cypress Place
Starting June 1, we are managing vegetation to reduce wildfire risk near Nicklaus North Golf Course and Cypress Place on both sides of Highway 99.
There will be temporary Valley Trail detours and closures from Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please respect all signs and staff for safety reasons because there will be machinery operating and tree falling. View our website to learn more.
CONSTRUCTION
Construction on the roof canopy at 4191 Gate Way Drive
Urgent construction to repair the roof at 4191 Gate Way Drive, near the Village taxi loop on Gateway Drive is underway.
This emergency construction work will fence off sections and pedestrian access will have temporary detours. Businesses will remain open as usual during construction.
Paving work on Drifter Way (Matterhorn Drive to Alpine Way) and Matterhorn Drive (Rainbow Drive to Drifter Way): June 1 to June 5
Construction to improve the paving is happening from Monday, June 1 to Friday, June 5 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Drifter Way and Matterhorn Drive will have single-lane alternating traffic, minor traffic delays and potential congestion. Expect construction vehicles and increased noise. Please follow signage and traffic controllers around the work zone.
Construction on the water valve and fitting replacement program on Spruce Grove Circle and Mons Road has been rescheduled to later this summer
Construction on the Spruce Grove water valve and fitting replacement project has been rescheduled to later this summer. We will share the start date once it’s confirmed.
Meadow Park rejuvenation work is underway
Fully funded by the Province of B.C. through the Resort Municipality Initiative, this project will replace the Meadow Park playground, splash park and realign the Valley Trail. This project will also transition the ball fields into open greenspace with a fenced off-leash dog area. There will be varying closures within the parks and adjacent parking areas over the spring and summer while our crews complete this exciting project. RCMP renovation underway
Please expect reduced parking at Municipal Hall, and increased construction activity, noise and traffic throughout this period. Construction is scheduled until October.
