FACILITIES AND RECREATION

Parks prepared for winter season with seasonal closures and turf, plant and flower work

This week, we’ll be cutting grass, refurbishing the lawn at the Inukshuk and expanding the baseball infield at the lower fields at Myrtle Philip School and establishing turf in Meadow Park where the baseball diamonds were removed. We are continuing to maintain the hanging baskets in the Village, and also pruning plants for the fall and planting bulbs for spring.

Other seasonal changes include decommissioning sports fields, closing tennis courts, removing playground swings in Whistler Olympic Plaza, closing select garbage receptacles and washrooms, and reducing some Village amenities such as benches and bike racks. While some seasonal amenities will close, we will continue to provide access to essential facilities. This includes garbage receptacles in our busier parks and other high-use areas, and accessible washroom facilities in these same parks through the winter.

Whistler is in Water Conservation Stage 2

In-ground automatic irrigation systems can water three days a week between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., with the days determined by your address.

Edible gardens can be watered by any irrigation method any day of the week between 7 and 10 a.m., as well as 8 to 11 p.m. Trees, shrubs and flower beds can be watered manually or by hand any day of the week between 7 and 10 a.m. as well as 8 to 11 p.m.

It’s essential to conserve water both for drinking and to fight structural fires. This year we have a very low snowpack that could lead to summer drought.
