FACILITIES AND RECREATION

Meadow Park Sports Centre pool area reopens September 28 following maintenance

The entire pool area will reopen Monday, September 28 following the annual maintenance shutdown. Thank you for your patience during this important work and we look forward to welcoming everyone back! 

Meadow Park Sports Centre is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 30 statutory holiday

Meadow Park Sports Centre will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the September 30 statutory holiday. These statutory holiday hours help us manage costs while maintaining service levels. Plan your next visit with our activity schedules. 

Municipal Hall and Whistler Public Library closed September 30 statutory holiday

Municipal Hall and Whistler Public Library are closed for the September 30 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation statutory holiday.  

Parks will be maintained as usual, bulb planting will start soon, irrigation is being shut down for fall 

This week our teams will be maintain Whistler’s municipal parks as usual. We will be pruning plants for the fall and will start planting bulbs soon. We are establishing grass on the Meadow Park baseball fields, then will begin stripping the fields next week to prepare for the fastball-sized baseball field.  

We are shutting down sprinkler systems for the fall and will begin clearing the irrigation pipes of water the week of October 12. This might cause slippery sections on the Valley Trail.  

Bridge replacements between Train Wreck trailhead and Cheakamus Suspension Bridge will cause weekday delays September 8 until late October 

We are replacing six bridges on the Sea to Sky South Trail between the Train Wreck trailhead and Cheakamus Suspension Bridge. The trail will stay open during this construction, but there will be delays, detours during work hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday from Tuesday, September 8 until late October. Outside of these hours, the bridges and trail will be open and clear. This work will improve the trail’s safety and accessibility. The final phase of this work is related to the Cheakamus Lava Escarpment and Sea to Sky Trail geosites in collaboration with the Sea to Sky Fire & Ice GeoRegion Society.    

River of Golden Dreams is closed from the new fish weir to CN railway portage due to low water 

The River of Golden Dreams has low water. To protect the developing fish embryo in the fish habitat, we have closed the section from the new fish weir (close to Alta Lake) to the CN rail portage. You can canoe or SUP from the bottom of Lorimer Road, or take out at the new weir and follow the 600-metre portage trail to below the CN rail tracks.  

Rainbow Lake trail closed 

The Rainbow Lake hiking trail is closed until early October while the Gin and Tonic bridge and A-Frame bridge are replaced. The Rainbow Falls Loop and Flank Trail will stay open, but there’s no access above the Flank Trail. 

BC Parks has closed trails in the Callaghan Conservancy following a bear attack 

BC Parks has closed Callaghan Conservancy trails following a bear attack. Read closure details.   

In October, Village Hosts booth will move to Thursday to Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  

The Village Host booth at Village Square will move to being open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday to Sunday in October and November. The Whistler Olympic Plaza booth is closed from October to December.   

NOTIFICATIONS 

Water main flushing in Nesters, Montebello, Spruce Grove and White Gold 

We are flushing water main pipes for the next few weeks. This improves water quality and maintains the water system.  

During flushing, you may have temporary water discolouration. You may also notice lower water pressure and more water flowing in the street and ditches. If your water is discoloured, run the cold tap for 15 to 30 minutes until your water runs clear. Avoid doing laundry until the water is clear again. Apply for a campfire permit, if planning a campfire 

A reminder that anyone wishing to have a campfire in Whistler must apply for a campfire permit. 

To report a wildfire, please call 911 or 1-800-663-5555 or dial *5555 on your cell phone. 

Whistler is in Water Conservation Stage 2 

In-ground automatic irrigation systems can water three days a week between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., with the days determined by your address.   

Edible gardens can be watered by any irrigation method any day of the week between 7 and 10 a.m., as well as 8 to 11 p.m. Trees, shrubs and flower beds can be watered manually or by hand any day of the week between 7 and 10 a.m. as well as 8 to 11 p.m.  

It’s essential to conserve water both for drinking and to fight structural fires. This year we have a very low snowpack that could lead to summer drought.  

Apply for a Temporary Irrigation Permit if you have new landscaping that needs more frequent watering. Read more about water conservation restrictions.

You can drop off yard waste for free at the Nesters and Function depots until November.  

EVENTS 

UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Downhill: September 25 to 27 

The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Downhill comes to Whistler Blackcomb’s mountain bike park from Friday, September 25 to Sunday, September 27.  

• Expect heavy traffic in Creekside throughout the event. If possible, walk, ride or use transit. 
• Free shuttles are available from Legends in Creekside to and from the finish line.  
• A free bike valet is available in Creekside from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.  
• Parking is by reservation only in Creekside Parkade when you book tickets.

AWARE, Whistler Multicultural Society and Whistler Community Services Society all-candidates meeting: October 1 

AWARE, Whistler Community Services Society and Whistler Multicultural Society are hosting All Candidates Meeting, for Whistler locals and visitors to bring together the candidates running for election or re-election in this year’s Municipal Elections. Thursday, October 1 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Maury Young Arts Centre.  

Vote in the municipal election: October 7, 10 and 17 

Advance voting at Whistler Public Library takes place on Wednesday, October 7 and Saturday, October 10. Election day is Saturday, October 17 at Myrtle Philip community School. Read more about voting and election candidates.  

GETTING AROUND  

Whistler Transit schedule

The Whistler Transit buses is on the spring, summer and fall schedule. Transit pass prices were recently reduced to make transit more affordable for locals. For bus times, visit the BC Transit website.   

WILDFIRE FUEL MANAGEMENT 

Kadenwood: Creekside in the Whistler Blackcomb tenure area  

Wildfire fuel management on Whistler Mountain, adjacent to Kadenwood, has begun and will continue until late October.  

Fuel thinning in the Kadenwood treatment area will temporarily affect some trails in the Creek Zone of the Whistler Mountain Bike Park, as well as some other trails around Kadenwood. Please refer to the map of the Kadenwood treatment area and trail impacts.  

Please respect all signs and staff around the work area for safety reasons, as there will be tree falling and heavy machinery operating.  

Highway 99: East side between Bayshores and Spring Creek 

Wildfire fuel management is taking place along the east side of Highway 99 between Bayshores and Spring Creek intermittently throughout September and October (see map). Please respect all signs and staff around the work area for safety reasons because there will be tree falling and heavy machinery operating. 

Alta Lake Road north 

We are managing vegetation to reduce wildfire risk along the north end of Alta Lake Road. This work may include traffic control and short delays along Alta Lake Road – thank you for your patience!  

Work continues in the unit 2 and 3 areas on the map and involves temporary trail closures on: Barts Dart Trail, River Runs Through It Access Trail, A River Runs Through It, Get Over It, Bob’s Rebob and Billy Epic. Please respect all signs and staff for safety reasons because there will be machinery operating and tree falling. CONSTRUCTION 

Structural Concrete Repairs: Whistler Mountain Village Stroll and Parkade D until October 26 

The affected section of the Village Stroll is fenced for safety, with detour signage in place. 

Parkade D, located below the Stroll, will be partially closed from September 22 to October 26. All affected parking stall owners have been notified directly. 

The project is expected to be completed by November 19. 

We’ve completed planned water outages on Spruce Grove Circle water project 

All planned water outages for the Spruce Grove Circle Water Value and Fitting Replacement Project are complete. The contractor is repairing curb, patching asphalt, restoring landscaping and removing construction equipment from the area for the next couple of weeks. Thank you for your patience while we maintained the water and sewer mains! 

Construction on Millars Pond sewer lift station replacement underway 

The Millars Pond sewer lift station replacement project is underway and will be completed in early October. The project is located at 2773 Cheakamus Way in the Bayshores neighborhood.  

Residents may experience increased traffic and noise in the area. Please follow all posted signage.  

Water corrosion control system upgrades underway at Emerald UV Water Treatment Station 

The water corrosion control system upgrades at the Emerald Estates Water Treatment Station, on 9523 Emerald Drive, are underway. They are scheduled to be complete in November 2026. Once the new water treatment system is installed, we will notify residents before we start using the new system to improve water quality. 

 Please use caution if you are using trails in this area because there may be minor detours. Please follow all signage. 

Final work on the Brio water services and valve replacement project 

Following the final water shutoffs on Friday September 25, the Brio water services and valve replacement project will return to water supplied by the water main. The contractor will repair the area, patch asphalt, restore landscaping and remove construction equipment from the area over the next couple of weeks. Thank you for your patience during this maintenance.   

Meadow Park rejuvenation work is underway 

Fully funded by the Province of B.C. through the Resort Municipality Initiative, this project will replace the Meadow Park playground, splash park and realign the Valley Trail. This project will also transition the ball fields into open greenspace with a fenced off-leash dog area. There will be varying closures within the parks and adjacent parking areas over the spring and summer while our crews complete this exciting project. Meadow Park playground and spray park close for construction until November 30. Discover our other great locations to play. 

RCMP renovation underway 

Please expect reduced parking at Municipal Hall, and increased construction activity, noise and traffic throughout this period. Construction is scheduled until the end of January.
