On shared unceded L̓il̓wat7úl and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh territory

The COS is seeing an increase in reports of bears accessing vehicles across Whistler. Bears are entering unlocked vehicles and/or those containing food or garbage, creating a risk to public safety and wildlife.

As bears actively seek food, help keep your community safe:

  • Do not leave food, garbage, or scented items in your vehicle.
  • When possible, remove food items from vehicles.
  • Always lock vehicle doors, keep windows fully closed, and secure your vehicle.
  • Remove all attractants to avoid drawing bears into residential areas.

Report human-bear conflicts or bears accessing vehicles to the COS RAPP line: 1-877-952-7277. Early reporting helps officers respond and supports community safety.
