Shared on behalf of the Conservation Officer Service (COS).
The COS received a report of cougar activity on Blackcomb Mountain the afternoon of Thursday, October 2.
Two cougars were reportedly seen on a trail just above Horstman Lane within close proximity of an individual, with one animal in front and one following behind. The cougars were eventually scared off with a noisemaker.
Conservation officers attended the scene but did not locate the animals.
The public is advised to avoid the area, if possible, and to take precautions when recreating outdoors in the event of a cougar encounter. These include:
- Travelling in groups;
 - Keeping pets on leash;
 - Carrying bear spray, and;
 - Making noise.

The COS continues to monitor the area and will respond as necessary to ensure public safety.
