New section of the Whistler Valley Trail

Here is the weekly update on projects and things of note that may impact your day-to-day life, including events, getting around town, parks, construction, etc. 

PARKS AND TRAILS 

Bayshore Drive / Highway 99 Valley Trail update 

The new section of the Valley Trail is now open. Please use caution, as crews and small equipment will still be on-site completing final work through the end of November. Lighting and landscaping upgrades are scheduled for spring 2026. 

Sea to Sky Trail adaptive mountain bike improvements 

Upgrades are underway on a two-kilometre section of the Sea to Sky Trail. The section runs from Bayly Park/Train Wreck parking south to the Cheakamus River Suspension Bridge. The trail will remain open during construction. Expect work crews and minor delays. The team plans to continue working for as long as weather permits. 

FACILITIES AND RECREATION 

Outdoor skating open daily from Thursday, November 27 at Whistler Olympic Plaza 

Join us in the heart of Whistler Village and glide into winter at the Whistler Olympic Plaza outdoor skating rink. Outdoor skating begins Thursday, November 27, at 11 a.m. Visit our website for hours and more information. 

2025 Co-ed Adult Sports

Adult sports nights have begun. We have something for everyone, from basketball and soccer to volleyball, pickleball, and badminton. Register ahead of time, on your own or bring some friends for a fun night in a social atmosphere. View the schedule (PDF) and register now. 

EVENTS 

Whistler Winterlight 2025 

Light up your winter with Whistler Winterlight on November 27, 28, and 29 at Whistler Olympic Plaza. The awe-inspiring illuminated Ferris wheel experience returns from noon to 8 p.m. 

Whistler’s Inside Scoop 2025 

The winter Inside Scoop event will take place on Tuesday, December 9, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Whistler Conference Centre. The event brings together hundreds of Whistler-based employees and local businesses to kick off the winter season. 

NOTIFICATIONS 

Municipal Hall Building and Planning desk closure on Tuesday, December 9 

The Building and Planning desks at Municipal Hall will be closed on Tuesday, December 9 for a staff training day. In-person services for Building and Planning will resume on Wednesday, December 10. We appreciate your understanding as our team takes this time to improve the services we provide. 

Water quality improvements for South Whistler now scheduled for January 2026 

To meet Health Canada’s updated guidelines and help protect your pipes, fittings and fixtures, we will be adjusting the pH levels in South Whistler’s water system. If you’re a business that relies on water, now’s the time to prepare for the pH change. Click the link for more information. 

Canada Post Strike

FUEL THINNING 

Wildfire fuel management along Highway 99, near Alpine Meadows 

We are managing vegetation to lower wildfire risk along Highway 99 in the Alpine Meadows area. Expect detours on the Valley Trail in these areas. There will also be minor delays and intermittent single-lane alternating traffic on the highway from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. Cheakamus Lava Escarpment Park 

Construction of the Cheakamus Lava Escarpment Park is expected to continue until the end of the year, weather permitting. 

CONSTRUCTION 

Sewer main and manhole inspections program 

Inspections will take place at various locations throughout the Whistler Valley until Friday, November 28. Contractors will have mobile signs out marking their present location while the work is taking place. 

RCMP renovation underway 

Please expect reduced parking at Municipal Hall, and increased construction activity, noise and traffic throughout this period. Construction is scheduled until April, 2026. 

GETTING AROUND  

Electric bus infrastructure construction starting soon 

Electric bus infrastructure construction starts in late November at BC Transit’s Whistler Transit Centre on Nesters Road. For more information, view the BC Transit website.  

Winter parking regulations in effect 

Whistler’s winter parking regulations are in effectfrom November 1 to March 31 to help keep roads and parking lots cleared:  

  • No even side parking Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (excluding holidays).  
  • No odd side parking any time during the year.  
  • No overnight parking in the day lots or any other surface level lots in the winter to allow for snow clearing.
