40 Books for 40 Years

Forty years ago, on August 27, 1986, Whistler Public Library opened its doors for the first time. The library team invites you to celebrate the 40th birthday with a reading challenge: 40 Books for 40 Years. Your challenge is to read 40 books this year – any genre, fiction or non-fiction, and physical books, e-books, and audiobooks are welcome. This challenge is designed to spark curiosity, encourage trying new genres, and reconnect with reading. Learn more

Stay away from Lost Lake Park tadpoles and wetlands

We’re gearing up for the 2026 Great Toad Migration at Lost Lake Park. Over the next few weeks, you will find thousands of Western Toad tadpoles in the lake. Please don’t touch tadpoles because the salt and oil on your hands can harm them. Stay on marked beaches and keep out of the wetland areas — please keep your dog out of wetlands too. Our environmental specialists expect these toadlets to hop out of Lost Lake to begin migrating in mid-July, and we may close some trails and roads to protect them.

Landscaping staff are planting five new trees at Rainbow and new plantings at Whistler Olympic Plaza

Our landscaping staff are preparing Whistler Olympic Plaza for the summer events with new plantings, joining the rest of the flowers and hanging baskets decorating Village Stroll. They are also installing five new trees at Rainbow Park to replace failing trees, and will maintain the park drainage. Staff continue with regular maintenance, mowing, weeding and irrigation testing and repairs throughout the parks and Village.

Swimmer’s itch at lake beaches

Planning to go for a swim? Swim from a dock and avoid shallow, marshy water then shower and dry off vigorously with a towel to reduce your chance of swimmer’s itch. Swimmer’s itch is caused by an allergic reaction to schistosome larvae. It isn’t harmful or contagious, but can cause an itchy and painful rash.

Come ask a Village Host!

NOTIFICATIONS

Water main flushing in Blueberry, Benchlands, Nicklaus North, Nesters, Spruce Grove and White Gold

We are flushing water main pipes in Blueberry the week of June 15 and then in Benchlands and continuing flushing for the next few weeks. This improves water quality and maintains the water system.

During flushing, you may have temporary water discolouration. You may also notice lower water pressure and more water flowing in the street and ditches. If your water is discoloured, run the cold tap for 15 to 30 minutes until your water runs clear. Avoid doing laundry until the water is clear again. Contact us at 604-935-8190 or email engineers@whistler.ca if your water continues to be discoloured.

Whistler Public Library is searching for their next Youth Ambassador Trustee. This is a volunteer role for a Whistler high school student to serve on the library’s Board of Trustees from September 2026 to June 2027. Applications need to be submitted by July 15.

Campfire ban

Campfires are banned in Whistler. All campfire permits are suspended during the ban. CSA- and ULA-rated propane campfire apparatus are permitted when used in a way that complies with regulations.

To report a wildfire, please call 911 or 1-800-663-5555 or dial *5555 on your cell phone.

Whistler is in Water Conservation Stage 2

In-ground automatic irrigation systems can water three days a week between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., with the days determined by your address.

Edible gardens can be watered by any irrigation method any day of the week between 7 and 10 a.m., as well as 8 to 11 p.m. Trees, shrubs and flower beds can be watered manually or by hand any day of the week between 7 and 10 a.m. as well as 8 to 11 p.m.

It’s essential to conserve water both for drinking and to fight structural fires. This year we have a very low snowpack that could lead to summer drought.

Apply for a Temporary Irrigation Permit if you have new landscaping that needs more frequent watering. Read more about water conservation restrictions
