Congratulations to local artist Andrea Mueller for her captivating winning submission for our winter banner series, “Local Wildlife.”

Lamppost banners throughout Whistler are part of our public art program funded by the Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI) through the Province of B.C., managed by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport. A request for proposals is published, artists submit their concepts, and a committee selects the winner through an anonymous voting process. The selected artist will have their designs grace Whistler’s streets for two seasons, in addition to receiving a commission for their work. Following the second season of display, the prized banners are offered to the public for purchase.

“I have been painting wildlife for years,” said Mueller of the inspiration behind her submission. “Inspired by a beautiful landscape, a majestic creature, and nature’s vivid colour palette; my work focuses on enhancing colours to modernize the subjects and make them appeal to a large audience. By creating beautiful images, I hope the viewer will reflect on their own values, be reminded of a personal experience in nature and fall in love with the Earth a little bit more. I aim to capture the value of the natural world and create a connection between the audience and the environment to inspiring conservation and protection.”
