Whistler Pride

New snow and rainbows to highlight diversity and inclusivity for eight-day event, among the largest winter Pride celebrations in North America

One of the most vibrant and energy-filled weeks of the calendar year is about to start in Whistler as rainbow flags, banners and even more lights get set to blast the January blues away.

Whistler Pride and Ski Festival 2024 runs from Sunday, January 21 through Sunday, January 28 and the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) will be out to support the now three-decade old festival as part of our continuous commitment to making Whistler a safe, desirable, and welcoming place to visit and live.

“Whistler is fortunate to host the largest Pride ski week in Canada and one of the oldest events in the global Pride ski scene,” says Mayor Jack Crompton. “This week brings together the international 2SLGBTQIA+ and Whistler communities to celebrate, rest, and reconnect. I can’t wait to get on my skis and welcome the Pride community back next week.”

In addition to investing provincial tourism funding to expand the festival’s events, the RMOW will be assisting with the Whistler Pride Community Celebration on Friday, January 26, including the annual parade through Whistler Village and newly added Youth Programming, for queer youth and allies aged 13 to 18. The Whistler Public Library children and adult displays will showcase materials written by and celebrating 2SLGBTQIA+ authors, perspectives and experiences. Weekly Storytime programs will be “Rainbow”-themed and celebrate love and 2SLGBTQIA+ families. The WPL’s monthly Whistler Rainbow Connection meeting will also take place on Wednesday, January 24, on its regular scheduled fourth Wednesday of the month. It will be followed by ice skating at Whistler Olympic Plaza, with admission and skate, rentals provided for free.

Whistler Pride 2024 week is also Family Literacy Week. Bringing the two together, on Sunday, January 28 there will be a Family Literacy Dance Party with Ira Pettle, celebrating all kinds of families.
