Whistler’s Lamppost Banner Program brings art into everyday moments. Each banner series contributes to the character of the community, transforming public spaces into places of expression and storytelling.
The latest banner series, Liz Dumontet’s “Currents and Routes”, continues that tradition. Liz’s banner series brings together four iconic animals to tell a layered story of connection and place. Through bold colour, flowing forms and symbolic storytelling, her designs reflect both the natural environment and the deeper rhythms that shape life in British Columbia.
About the banner series: “Currents and Routes”
At the heart of “Currents and Routes” is the idea that everything is connected across landscapes, communities and generations.
Each animal represents a different thread in that story:
- Salmon symbolize resilience and the determination to move forward, even against the current.
- Grey wolves reflect family and community, paired with northern lights to evoke guidance and shared paths.
- Black bears, shown as a mother and cub, represent nurturing, protection and strength, layered with constellations that speak to navigation and ancestral knowledge.
- Eagles embody wisdom and awakening, with light-filled skies symbolizing clarity and knowledge and suggesting connection between earth and sky.
Together, these elements create a distinct West Coast narrative, one that resonates with Whistler’s landscape and sense of belonging.
