Here is the weekly update on projects and things of note that may impact your day-to-day life, including events, getting around town, parks, construction, etc. 

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT 

Join the Whistler Off Road Cycling Association (WORCA) and RMOW for the Trails Open House 

Join us at the Town Plaza Gazebo on Saturday, May 10, from 12 to 4 p.m. Speak with the WORCA team about your ideas for the future of Whistler’s trail network. The RMOW Parks Planning team will also be present to provide the latest information about the Recreation Trails Strategy

Reimagining Taluswood Neighbourhood Park 

This project aims to transform an underused park into a vibrant neighbourhood park. We want to hear from the Taluswood and Nordic Estates neighbourhoods. We’ll be at Eva Lake Park on Thursday, May 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and at Bottomless Lake Park on Wednesday, May 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. Attend one of our pop-up events or visit our website to learn more and complete the survey before Saturday, May 31.

Spring GoByBike Week spinning from Saturday, May 31 to Friday, June 6

NOTIFICATIONS 

Fire danger rating 

Whistler’s fire danger rating on Thursday, May 7, is LOW. Click the link to view the daily fire danger rating. Whistler is listed as “Cheakamus”. 

No fires are allowed in Whistler when the fire danger rating is HIGH or EXTREME. To report a wildfire, immediately call 911 or 1 800 663-5555 toll-free or dial *5555 on a cell phone.  

Whistler is in Water Conservation Stage 2

The FireSmart Community Chipper Service is now available 

Every year, we offer a free FireSmart Community Chipper Service from spring to fall. This FireSmart project reduces wildfire fuel levels on private property. It’s the most significant immediate step you can take to protect your property. Click the link for more info.  

GETTING AROUND  

Whistler Transit 

Enjoy free transit in Whistler for Victoria Day. This includes Saturday, May 17, Sunday, May 18, and Monday, May 19. Enjoy free transit and leave the car at home this May long weekend. Download a Whistler transit schedule.  

FACILITIES AND RECREATION 

Whistler Public Library’s 2025 Strategic Progress Survey 

Whistler Public Library’s 2024-2029 Strategic Plan (PDF) focuses on the library’s growth as a community-driven, innovative institution. The Strategic Progress Survey will help assess their impact and gather feedback for future growth. Visit the Strategic Progress Survey 2025 to share your thoughts and complete the survey. 

PARKS AND TRAILS 

Rainbow Park Rejuvenation 

Final improvements at Rainbow Park will take place from now until Thursday, May 15. The park, washrooms and Valley Trail will remain open to the public. The work includes a new bike rack and bike share station. It also includes park hammock improvements, extra irrigation and shrub replacements.  Lawn leveling will take place, and the washroom area will be finished, including railway crossing surface replacement, bee turf and wildflower seeding.  

Pine Point Park improvements 

Trail improvement work continues. Please note there is limited access to the new trail leading to the waterfront during this time. Click the link for more details about park improvements. 

Parks Parking  

Seasonal pay parking returns to Alpha Lake Park, Wayside Park, Rainbow Park and Lakeside Park from Thursday, May 14. Lost Lake Park is also limited to pick-up/drop-off only. Visit Parks parking for more information. 

WATER MAIN FLUSHING

Unidirectional flushing in Cheakamus 

Watch for signage at the entrance to the neighbourhood, as it will indicate when we are flushing in the area. At these times, you should limit or avoid using water. Water pressure may be affected and there may be colour in the water. After flushing for the day is complete, please run taps until water is clear. Learn more about water main flushing.  

FUEL THINNING 

Stonebridge 

Fuel thinning in the Whistler Stonebridge treatment unit is scheduled to commence on Monday, May 12. Beaver Pass, Whip Me Snip Me, Rainbow Lake, and Lower Beaver Pass trails will be closed to ensure safety to the public. Click the link for more info and to view the map of affected trails.  

Whistler Cemetery  

Expect active falling, pruning, machine removal and chipping until the middle of May. The Cemetery remains closed to the public from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Public visitation to the Cemetery is available from 5 to 9 p.m. on weekdays and from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends, until the wildfire thinning work is complete. The surrounding trails are not affected. To attend the cemetery outside of these hours, please contact: cemetery@whistler.ca. 

CONSTRUCTION  

EV Charger Installation 

The Day Lot 3 EV charger installation project, in partnership with BC Hydro, has begun. Expect reduced parking in Day Lot 3 for the upcoming months during this construction. 

Needed repairs at Blueberry Pump Station S115

Emergency work at Blueberry Pump Station is underway. The work includes concrete pad demolition, piling and other needed repairs. The team is expected to complete all work by the end of May. 

South Whistler Water Supply Upgrades Project – Phase II  

Construction continues at the Cheakamus pump station, 1101 Cheakamus Lake Road. For more info.
