Here is the weekly update on projects and things of note that may impact your day-to-day life, including events, getting around town, parks, construction, etc.
FACILITIES AND RECREATION
Meadow Park Sports Centre pool area closed August 17 to September 27 for maintenance
The entire pool area, including the lap pool, leisure pool and hot spots are closed for the annual maintenance shutdown from Monday, August 17 to Sunday, September 27. We look forward to reopening our pool area fully on Monday, September 28.
Step carefully! Lost Lake trails have reopened after the toad migration
The Lost Lake trails are open again after the toad migration closures, but a few final toads are still hopping into the surrounding forest and crossing single-track nature trails near water. Please watch your step and follow signage.
River of Golden Dreams is closed from the new fish weir to CN railway portage due to low water
The River of Golden Dreams has low water. To protect the developing fish embryo in the fish habitat, we have closed the section from the new fish weir (close to Alta Lake) to the CN rail portage. You can canoe or SUP from the bottom of Lorimer Road, or take out at the new weir and follow the 600-metre portage trail to below the CN rail tracks.
Bridge replacements between Train Wreck trailhead and Cheakamus Suspension Bridge will cause weekday delays September 8 until late October
We are replacing six bridges on the Sea to Sky South Trail between the Train Wreck trailhead and Cheakamus Suspension Bridge. The trail will stay open during this construction, but there will be delays, detours during work hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday from Tuesday, September 8 until late October. Outside of these hours, the bridges and trail will be open and clear. This work will improve the trail’s safety and accessibility. The final phase of this work is related to the Cheakamus Lava Escarpment and Sea to Sky Trail geosites in collaboration with the Sea to Sky Fire & Ice GeoRegion Society.
Rainbow Lake trail closed
The Rainbow Lake hiking trail is closed until early October while the Gin and Tonic bridge and A-Frame bridge are replaced. The Rainbow Falls Loop and Flank Trail will stay open, but there’s no access above the Flank Trail.
NOTIFICATIONS
Water main flushing in Nesters, Montebello, Spruce Grove and White Gold
We are flushing water main pipes for the next few weeks. This improves water quality and maintains the water system.
During flushing, you may have temporary water discolouration. You may also notice lower water pressure and more water flowing in the street and ditches. If your water is discoloured, run the cold tap for 15 to 30 minutes until your water runs clear. Avoid doing laundry until the water is clear again. Campfire ban rescinded
The campfire ban has been lifted. A reminder that anyone wishing to have a campfire in Whistler must apply for a campfire permit.

Whistler is in Water Conservation Stage 2
In-ground automatic irrigation systems can water three days a week between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., with the days determined by your address.
Edible gardens can be watered by any irrigation method any day of the week between 7 and 10 a.m., as well as 8 to 11 p.m. Trees, shrubs and flower beds can be watered manually or by hand any day of the week between 7 and 10 a.m. as well as 8 to 11 p.m.
It’s essential to conserve water both for drinking and to fight structural fires. This year we have a very low snowpack that could lead to summer drought.
Apply for a Temporary Irrigation Permit if you have new landscaping that needs more frequent watering. Read more about water conservation restrictions.

You can drop off yard waste for free at the Nesters and Function depots until November.
EVENTS
Whistler’s Municipal All Candidates Meeting: September 24
Watch candidates presentations and grill them with questions at the Whistler All Candidates meeting ahead of the election on October 17. Join us on Thursday, September 24 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Maury Young Arts Centre.
RBC GranFondo traffic, parking and transit impacts: Saturday, September 12
Five thousand cyclists will pedal from Vancouver to Whistler during the annual RBC GranFondo on Saturday, September 12. Expect major road delays southbound from 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Day lot 4 will be closed September 10 to 12 for event operations. Whistler Transit schedule
The Whistler Transit buses is on the spring, summer and fall schedule. Transit pass prices were recently reduced to make transit more affordable for locals. For bus times, visit the BC Transit website.
WILDLIFE ALERTS
We are asking park users to be cautious with bear attractants
Food-conditioned black bears have recently been reported in Lost Lake and Rainbow parks, including incidents involving unattended backpacks. Help keep bears wild by securing food and scented items, disposing of waste properly, and using bear-proof bins. Learn more about staying bear smart.
WILDFIRE FUEL MANAGEMENT
Highway 99: west side between Bayshores and Spring Creek
Wildfire fuel management will take place on the west side of Highway 99 between Bayshores and Spring Creek for the week of September 14 to 18 (see map). Expect short highway delays during this work.
Please respect all signs and staff around the work area for safety reasons, as there will be tree falling and heavy machinery operating.
Kadenwood: within Whistler Blackcomb tenure area
Wildfire fuel management on Whistler Mountain, adjacent to Kadenwood, has begun and will continue through to late October.
Fuel thinning in the Kadenwood treatment area will temporarily affect some trails in the Creek Zone of the Whistler Mountain Bike Park, as well as some other trails around Kadenwood. Please refer to the map of the Kadenwood treatment area and trail impacts.

Alta Lake Road north
We are managing vegetation to reduce wildfire risk along the north end of Alta Lake Road. Work continues in the unit 2 and 3 areas on the map.
This work involves temporary trail closures on: Barts Dart Trail, River Runs Through It Access Trail, A River Runs Through It, Get Over It, Bob’s Rebob and Billy Epic. Please respect all signs and staff for safety reasons because there will be machinery operating and tree falling. Trails will be restored following the work. Learn more.
CONSTRUCTION
Blackcomb Way / Fitzsimmons Creek (Village) Bridge Deck Repairs August 24 to September 17
Expect one-way traffic during construction. Please follow all traffic controls.
Spruce Grove Circle water outage: September 14
There’ll be a water outage in Spruce Grove Circle on Monday, September 14 for the Water Valve and Fitting Replacement program. Residents will be notified 72 hours beforehand. After this the project site will be cleaned up and the asphalt patched over the following weeks.
Construction on Millars Pond sewer lift station replacement underway
The Millars Pond sewer lift station replacement project is underway and will be completed in early October. The project is located at 2773 Cheakamus Way in the Bayshores neighborhood.
Residents may experience increased traffic and noise in the area. Please follow all posted signage.
Water corrosion control system upgrades underway at Emerald UV Water Treatment Station
The water corrosion control system upgrades at the Emerald Estates Water Treatment Station, on 9523 Emerald Drive, are underway. They are scheduled to be complete in November 2026. Once the new water treatment system is installed, we will notify residents before we start using the new system to improve water quality.
Please use caution if you are using trails in this area because there may be minor detours. Please follow all signage.
Brio water services and valve replacement project: brief water outages on September 14
The Brio water services and valve replacement project is scheduled to have brief water outages on Monday, September 14 at 3317-3333 and 3314-3346 Panorama Ridge (see segment 3 on the map) while the contractor sets up a temporary above-ground water supply to support construction. This temporary water supply is expected to be used until October 8. During this time, residents may have a reduced water supply and water pressure.
Current schedule for reduced water supply and pressure:
- 3373-3431 and 3378-3390 Panorama Ridge, Alta Vista Works Yard at 3000 Highway 99 (see segment 1): June 29 to October 8
- 3341-3369 and 3350-3374 Panorama Ridge (see segment 2): August 12 to October 8
- 3317-3333 and 3314-3346 Panorama Ridge (see segment 3): September 14 to October 8
Meadow Park rejuvenation work is underway
Fully funded by the Province of B.C. through the Resort Municipality Initiative, this project will replace the Meadow Park playground, splash park and realign the Valley Trail. This project will also transition the ball fields into open greenspace with a fenced off-leash dog area. There will be varying closures within the parks and adjacent parking areas over the spring and summer while our crews complete this exciting project. RCMP renovation underway
Please expect reduced parking at Municipal Hall, and increased construction activity, noise and traffic throughout this period. Construction is scheduled until October.
