Here is the weekly update on projects and things of note that may impact your day-to-day life, including events, getting around town, parks, construction, etc.
FACILITIES AND RECREATION
Resident recreation registration starts August 8 — residents need to verify their address in person before registration
It’s almost time to register for fall programming! Recreation programs are visible from Thursday, July 30.
Registration for Whistler residents starts:
- Saturday, August 8 at 11 a.m. online.
- Sunday, August 9 at 9 a.m. by phone.
Registration for non-residents starts:
- Saturday, August 15 at 11 a.m. online.
- Sunday, August 16 at 9 a.m. by phone.
To register as a resident, you need to have visited Meadow Park Sports Centre in person to verify your residency ahead of registration.
Our Recreation Department prioritizes programming for Whistler’s taxpayers and charges non-residents an additional access fee for our upkeep. This fee is used for maintenance and investment to keep recreation in our town as safe and affordable as possible for all customers, residents and non-residents.
Park food trucks, free bike valet and free parks shuttles
For peak season, until September 7, Lost Lake Park and Rainbow Park have food trucks daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lakeside Park, Alpha Lake Park and Whistler Olympic Plaza have food trucks on specific dates and for some events. Find the full schedule and vendors at whistler.ca/ParkEats.
Lost Lake Park and Rainbow Park have free bike valets from 12 to 6 p.m. on weekends and statutory holidays. Our free bike valet is at Whistler Olympic Plaza from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and statutory holidays and at summer events from 6 to 10 p.m.
Take a free summer parks shuttles to Lost Lake Park, Rainbow Park, and the new Parks Loop including Lakeside Park, Wayside Park and Alpha Lake Park.

Parks updates: refurbishing Meadow Park field, a fast ball diamond at Myrtle Philip School, repairs to Spruce Grove ball diamond
Now that Meadow Park has water, our Landscape Team are doing a lot of work to refurbish the old baseball diamonds by removing ball diamond material, preparing the ground and seeding the field. We will irrigate the Meadow Park field at 12 p.m. each day. The old ball diamond material will be moved to Myrtle Philip Community School, so the lower field can be converted from a soft ball diamond to a fast ball diamond.
Meanwhile at the Spruce Grove Park ball diamond, the Landscape Team repaired an irrigation break that happened at the weekend, and will be prepping and repairing the first base dugout.
In addition to these projects, the Landscape Team is busy with their usual maintenance: weeding, pruning, mowing, inspecting irrigation, cleaning washrooms and removing garbage.
Beachcut Trail closed for migrating toads
The 2026 Great Toad Migration has started at Lost Lake Park. Western Toads have started to emerge from the lake. Beachcut Trail is closed for their migration and the area has detour signs. Interested in volunteering to help the toads? Email stewardship@whistler.ca.
Meadow Park Sports Centre hot tub and leisure pool closure
The hot tub and leisure pool are currently closed at Meadow Park Sports Centre due to heat exchanger issues. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while we work to restore the hot tub to service. The sauna and steam room remain open. River of Golden Dreams is closed from the new fish weir to CN railway portage due to low water
The River of Golden Dreams has low water. To protect the developing fish embryo in the fish habitat, we have closed the section from the new fish weir (close to Alta Lake) to the CN rail portage. You can canoe or SUP from the bottom of Lorimer Road, or take out at the new weir and follow the 600-metre portage trail to below the CN rail tracks.
40 Books for 40 Years
Forty years ago, on August 27, 1986, Whistler Public Library opened its doors for the first time. The library team invites you to celebrate the 40th birthday with a reading challenge: 40 Books for 40 Years. Your challenge is to read 40 books this year – any genre, fiction or non-fiction, and physical books, e-books, and audiobooks are welcome. This challenge is designed to spark curiosity, encourage trying new genres, and reconnect with reading. Learn more.
Rainbow Lake trail closed
The Rainbow Lake hiking trail is closed until late August while the Gin and Tonic bridge and A-Frame bridge are replaced. The Rainbow Falls Loop and Flank Trail will stay open, but there’s no access above the Flank Trail.
NOTIFICATIONS
Water main flushing in Benchlands, Nicklaus North, Nesters, Spruce Grove and White Gold
We are flushing water main pipes for the next few weeks. This improves water quality and maintains the water system.
During flushing, you may have temporary water discolouration. You may also notice lower water pressure and more water flowing in the street and ditches. If your water is discoloured, run the cold tap for 15 to 30 minutes until your water runs clear. Avoid doing laundry until the water is clear again. Contact us at 604-935-8190 or email engineers@whistler.ca if your water continues to be discoloured.
Campfire ban
Campfires are banned in Whistler. All campfire permits are suspended during the ban. CSA- and ULA-rated propane campfire apparatus are permitted when used in a way that complies with regulations.

Whistler is in Water Conservation Stage 2
In-ground automatic irrigation systems can water three days a week between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., with the days determined by your address.
Edible gardens can be watered by any irrigation method any day of the week between 7 and 10 a.m., as well as 8 to 11 p.m. Trees, shrubs and flower beds can be watered manually or by hand any day of the week between 7 and 10 a.m. as well as 8 to 11 p.m.
It’s essential to conserve water both for drinking and to fight structural fires. This year we have a very low snowpack that could lead to summer drought.
Apply for a Temporary Irrigation Permit if you have new landscaping that needs more frequent watering. Read more about water conservation restrictions.

You can drop off yard waste for free at the Nesters and Function depots until November.

Whistler Transit schedule
The Whistler Transit buses is on the spring, summer and fall schedule. Transit pass prices were recently reduced to make transit more affordable for locals. For bus times, visit the BC Transit website.
WILDFIRE FUEL MANAGEMENT
Alta Lake Road north
We are managing vegetation in partnership with the Cheakamus Community Forest to reduce wildfire risk along the north end of Alta Lake Road. Work continues in the unit 2 and unit 5 areas on the map.
This work involves temporary trail closures on: Barts Dart Trail, River Runs Through It Access Trail, A River Runs Through It and Get Over It. Work also requires intermittent closures on the gravel pit access road down from Alta Lake Road, this doesn’t include the Emerald Forest section.
Please respect all signs and staff for safety reasons because there will be machinery operating and tree falling. Trails will be restored following the work. View our website to learn more.
Highway 99: near Spring Creek Drive (east side of Highway)
We are managing vegetation to reduce wildfire risk on the east side of Highway 99 near Spring Creek Drive. This work will continue until approximately July 31.

CONSTRUCTION
Traffic delays between Pemberton and Whistler due to Miller Capilano Highway Services work
Miller Capilano Highway Services have informed us they will be working on the Soo River Bridge 22 kilometres north of Whistler from July 20 for approximately 40 days. Give yourself additional time for any journey between Pemberton and Whistler: there will be single-lane alternating traffic and temporary traffic signals for the entire project.
Construction on Millars Pond sewer lift station replacement underway
The Millars Pond sewer lift station replacement project is underway and will be completed in early October. The project is located at 2773 Cheakamus Way in the Bayshores neighborhood.
Residents may experience increased traffic and noise in the area. Please follow all posted signage.
Construction on the Spruce Grove Circle Water Valve and Fitting Replacement Program is scheduled for August 4 to 31 and Mons Road from September 1 to 11
Construction on the Spruce Grove water valve and fitting replacement project is expected to take place in Spruce Grove Circle starting Tuesday, August 4 to Monday, August, 31 and on Mons Road from Tuesday, September 1 to Friday, September 11. Please watch for updates because the dates may change.
Spruce Grove residents will be given 72 hours’ notice when the water will be temporarily shut off. Expect equipment noise, construction vehicles and minor vehicle and pedestrian delays during the work. Please follow directions from signs and traffic controllers.
Paving work at Alpha Lake Road in the Function Junction neighbourhood: from Miller Creek Road to 1208 Alpha Lake Road
We are paving at Alpha Lake Road in the Function Junction neighbourhood from Tuesday, August 4 to Friday, August 7 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Intersection at Miller Creek Road and Alpha Lake Road: There will be minor traffic delays, congestion and traffic control for turning in and out at Alpha Lake Road.
Alpha Lake Road: There will be single-lane alternating traffic, which may result in minor traffic delays, congestion, and increased noise. Construction equipment will be present.
Traffic control personnel will be on-site to direct traffic and ensure passage through the work zone.
Water corrosion control system upgrades underway at Emerald UV Water Treatment Station
The water corrosion control system upgrades at the Emerald Estates Water Treatment Station, on 9523 Emerald Drive, are underway. They are scheduled to be complete in November 2026. Once the new water treatment system is installed, we will notify residents before we start using the new system to improve water quality.
Please use caution if you are using trails in this area because there may be minor detours. Please follow all signage.
Brio: water service updates
The Brio water services and valve replacement project contractor is setting up a temporary above-ground water supply to support construction. This temporary water supply is expected to be used until October 8. During this time, residents throughout the upper Panorama Ridge area may have a reduced water supply and water pressure. The map shows the area that will be impacted.
Current schedule for reduced water supply and pressure:
- 3373-3431 and 3378-3390 Panorama Ridge, Alta Vista Works Yard at 3000 Highway 99 (see segment 1): June 29 to October 8
- 3341-3369 and 3350-3374 Panorama Ridge (see segment 2): August 7 to October 8
- 3317-3333 and 3314-3346 Panorama Ridge (see segment 3): September 18 to October 8
Your water may have air and be discoloured when your water service is restored. Please run a top-floor tap until the water runs clear.
Meadow Park rejuvenation work is underway
Fully funded by the Province of B.C. through the Resort Municipality Initiative, this project will replace the Meadow Park playground, splash park and realign the Valley Trail. This project will also transition the ball fields into open greenspace with a fenced off-leash dog area. There will be varying closures within the parks and adjacent parking areas over the spring and summer while our crews complete this exciting project. Meadow Park playground and spray park close for construction until November 30. Discover our other great locations to play.
RCMP renovation underway
Please expect reduced parking at Municipal Hall, and increased construction activity, noise and traffic throughout this period. Construction is scheduled until October.
