Latest Status

ISL Engineering and Land Services Ltd. finalized the design in 2023. Presently, we are in the procurement phase for executing the water main replacement project. The invitation to tender for construction was officially posted on January 11, 2024 and closed on February 13, 2024. Council passed a resolution for the contract on March 19, which has been awarded Coastal Mountain Excavations Ltd. Construction will start in Emerald on Summer Lane, south entrance, the week of April 22, 2024.

Overview

Our project will replace two sections of water mains, valves, fittings, and services to property line in response to corrosive soil conditions that have led to multiple water main failures, causing damage RMOW infrastructure.
These replacements are critical to prevent unscheduled service interruptions and ensure the longevity of Whistler’s water infrastructure. By upgrading these components, we will not only extend the lifespan of the existing infrastructure but also reduce water loss from leaks and minimize maintenance costs. This initiative will be carried out in two separate areas of Whistler.

Construction Impact

During construction, water service interruptions will occur. Notices will be issued to affected residents at least 72 hours before any shutdowns. Anticipate equipment noise and heightened presence of construction vehicles. Temporary road closures on Taylor Way, detours, and minor delays on Lake Placid Road and Summer Lane with single lane alternating traffic will be implemented throughout the project. Pedestrians and cyclists will be rerouted around the work areas. Traffic control personnel will be stationed onsite to facilitate vehicle and pedestrian flow. Kindly adhere to traffic control personnel instructions and construction signage.
