Brio extension tree thinning project update

Work began in July 2024 to thin an area above Brio, near Sunridge Court and Tantalus Drive, covering 6.6 hectares. Materials will be hauled off site with some controlled burns in the fall months if the weather cooperates.

The RMOW is committed to reducing the risk of wildfire in our community. Over the last few years, the municipality has been assisting homeowners with removing flammable vegetation on their properties by offering a free chipper service. You may also be aware of wildfire fuel thinning projects that have been done throughout the valley adjacent to neighborhoods like Rainbow, Alpine Meadows, Horstman Estates, Kadenwood, Cheakamus, and Millars Pond.

No public trails will be affected. Access to the area as outlined in the map below will be closed to ensure safety of the public. It is very important that our residents respect the signs as the contractor will be cutting down trees and using heavy equipment. We will do our best to minimize disruption and all trails will be restored after the work is completed. Information will be kept updated at whistler.ca/fuel thinning
