FireSmart Home Partners Program Contest

Win up to $1,000 of work on your property by the Whistler FireSmart Program, mitigating wildfire hazards around your home.

Official rules

The FireSmart Home Partners Program Contest (the “Contest”) is sponsored by the Resort Municipality of Whistler’s FireSmart program, located at 4325 Blackcomb Way, Whistler BC V8E 0X5 (the “Sponsor”). There is one (1) Prize to be awarded.

Who Can Enter:

  • The contest is open to Single-family Property owners within the Municipality of Whistler who are over the age of majority. Renters, subletters or agents of Homeowners (Property Maintenance Companies) do not qualify and will not receive entrance on behalf of clients.
  • The contest is only available to single-family dwellings, this contest is not open to strata complexes, commercial or industrial land.
  • The Contest is subject to all federal, provincial, and municipal laws, and is void where prohibited.  
  • Employees of the Sponsor or any of its respective affiliates, subsidiaries, or any other company or individual involved with the design, production, execution or distribution of the Contest and their immediate family (spouse, parents and step-parents, siblings and step-siblings, and children and step-children) and household members (people who share the same residence at least three months of the year) of each employee are not eligible. 
  • Participation constitutes entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and Sponsor’s decisions, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest.  Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein.

Entry Period:

  • The Contest is open from May 1st, 2024, at 8 a.m. Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) until May 22, 2024, 5 PM PST” (the “Contest Period”).

How and Where to Enter:

  • Eligible entrants may enter by emailing firesmart@whistler.ca to schedule and receive a Home Partners Program Assessment from a WFP Wildfire Mitigation Specialist
  • No purchase necessary
  • Winners must correctly answer a time-limited skill-testing question to win the prize: “What is British Columbia’s provincial tree?”
  • Limit one entry per person for the duration of the Entry Period.
  • Entries must be received by May 22 at 4:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time Zone to be eligible.

Winner Selection:

  • One potential winner will be selected in a random draw from all eligible entries received during the entry period.
  • The draw will be conducted on Wednesday, May 29 at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time Zone using a random selection method to ensure fairness.
  • The odds of winning will be 1 in 20.
  • The selected winner will be subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with the official rules.
  • To claim the prize, the potential winner must correctly answer a skill-testing question and sign and return a declaration and release form within 7 days of notification.
  • If the selected winner is found to be ineligible or does not comply with the official rules, they may be disqualified, and an alternate winner may be selected through the same process.

Winner Notification:

  • The potential winner will be notified by email within 3 days of the draw date.
  • If the potential winner cannot be contacted or does not respond within 7 days, an alternate winner may be selected.

Contest Prize:

  • One (1) Contest Prize will be awarded. The winner of which must be age of majority.
  • The prize is non-transferable and non-exchangeable and cannot be redeemed for cash or substituted for another item or service.
  • The Winner will receive up to 1000$ worth of work performed by the Whistler FireSmart Program (WFP). The work will only include items identified in the Home Partners Report that require hazard mitigation.
  • The 1000$ prize amount covers a crew for approximately 2 hours with some additional time for site cleanup and debris removal via the chipper. Only chippable material will be removed i.e.: shrubs, sticks, branches, limbs, tree stems, etc. Material that cannot be processed through the chipper will not be removed by the WFP team.
  • Prize Winner must be present on site at the time the work is being conducted. Work scope must be identified and consented to by the prize winner before work can commence.
  • Agents of the prize winner will not satisfy this requirement and the prize winner will forfeit the prize.
  • Work will only be done within the bounds of the prize winner’s property limits. No change will be made to any tree or shrub outside of property limits even if branches, limbs, tree stems, shrubs, etc. encroach from a neighboring property.
  • If the winner is not able to schedule and receive the Contest Prize within the following 30 days, the prize will be forfeited and no alternative prize will be awarded. The full portion of the Contest Prize not accepted or redeemed by the winner will be redrawn and distributed to one (1) of the other contest participants. The Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prizes in whole or in part with a prize of equal or greater value in the event a prize is not reasonably available at its discretion.
  • All elements of the Contest Prizes are non-transferable, non-exchangeable, not for resale and non-refundable. The Contest Prize winner is not entitled to receive any payment for any possible difference between the actual value of the Contest Prizes and their estimated values. Contest Prizes must be accepted as awarded. No cash alternatives, substitution or transfers of the Contest Prizes will be allowed.

Other Matters:

  • The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and local/municipal laws and is void where prohibited by law. If any provision of these Official Rules is found by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unenforceable, all other provisions will remain in full force and effect.
  • The Sponsor will not, under any circumstances, be responsible for, or liable to any entrant or any other person for:
    • any erroneous lost, damaged, late, incomplete, misdirected, deleted, defective, or altered Contest registrations, regardless of the cause, including, but not limited to, failure of the Site;
    • any failure for any reason whatsoever of the selected entrant to receive a prize notification;
    • any changes in email addresses after Contest registrations are submitted; and
    • any computer, online, telephone, or technical malfunctions or errors that may occur, regardless of the cause.
  • If for any reason the Contest is not capable of being conducted as intended by the Sponsor, including due to computer viruses, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other cause that corrupts or interferes with the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Contest, the Sponsor may, at its sole discretion, disqualify any entrant responsible for such misconduct and cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Contest.
  • Should tax liability arise, then it will be the responsibility of the winner to notify their own Government’s relevant tax department. The Sponsor takes no responsibility or liability for taxation or for any other costs incurred in connection with the prizes received in this Contest.
  • Decisions of the Sponsor are final and binding.
  • By entering the Contest, participants consent to the Sponsor’s collection, use, and disclosure of the personal information provided in the Contest registration for the administration of the Contest, including posting of the winner’s name and city of residence on the Sponsor website, and in aggregated, non-personal form in order to create reports regarding Contest entrant demographics and consumer habits, which reports the Sponsor may disclose to others. The Sponsor will use the entrant’s personal information only for identified purposes, and protect the entrant’s personal information in a manner that is consistent with the Resort Municipality of Whistler’s privacy policy and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
