Bear Notice – Shared on behalf of the Conservation Officer Service (COS)

On Monday, October 23, a black bear was killed by COS in the Spring Creek neighborhood, due to heightened public safety risk following the bear successfully accessing multiple cars throughout numerous neighborhoods in Whistler and accessing non-natural foods.

This is an important reminder to residents and visitors of Whistler that bears have an excellent sense of smell and are still very active. Do not leave garbage, food items or empty food wrappers and containers inside vehicles. If your vehicle is unattended, lock the doors and fully close vehicle windows.

Please help to keep people safe and our bears safe and wild.

If you regularly see a bear around your property or vehicle, please call the Conservation Officer Service at: 1-877-952-7277. The earlier bears are deterred from being around residential areas, the less likely they are to come across attractants or become comfortable around people.
