The RMOW relocated the Himmelsbach Hut from Russet Lake to Mt. Sproatt following collaboration with B.C. Parks and the B.C. Mountaineering Club.
This new location was identified as a suitable site in terms of bear habitat, bear-human conflict hazard ratings and user proximity. Although the cabin is not open to the public, the working station provides information and education to recreation users through the RMOW Alpine Trail Ranger program.
The Alpine Ranger cabin can also be used by Recreation Sites and Trails BC staff, BC Conservation Officer Service, biologists, and Whistler Search and Rescue.
