Cheakamus Crossing Expansion
Cheakamus Crossing Phase 2 is a key recommendation of Mayor’s Task Force on Resident Housing. It is a municipal priority to progress the Task Force's recommendations by delivering a new supply of affordable housing for Whistler's workforce community. Planning is underway for the future development of both rental and ownership opportunities for employees.
Active WHA Developments
Build additional employee restricted homes.
The RMOW, has provided its own lands to develop new employee restricted homes through its subsidiary the Whistler Housing Authority (WHA). The newly occupied development at 1310 Cloudburst Drive created 75 beds, with three additional development projects in progress adding an additional 152 beds between the winter of 2018 and 2019. The addition of these 227 represents over 50 per cent increase in WHA rentals. There are also plans to expand the Cheakamus Crossing neighbourhood which will add further inventory to both rental and ownership housing.
- 1310 Cloudburst Drive
The WHA’s recently occupied rental apartment building at 1310 Cloudburst Drive will provide new housing for 84 occupants in December 2017.
- 1020 Legacy Way
A new multi-family development in Cheakamus Crossing will provide housing for 50 employees earning low to moderate incomes. Building permits will be submitted in the coming weeks, construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2018, occupancy is anticipated in early 2019.
- 8350 Bear Paw Trail
Twenty units in the Rainbow neighborhood will provide housing for 40 senior employees. The building permit was submitted in December 2017, construction is anticipated for spring 2018 with occupancy expected in early 2019
